Working with candles is a simple or a complex minor magick, depending on the rite or ritual you perform with it. Candle magicks can be used alone or be part of an elaborate ritual.

Candle Magick works on the following principles:
~The Color of the Candle
~The Type of oil you use to dress it
~The sigils you carve (or do not carve) upon it
~The sort of divinity you call as you light it.

There is no end to your ingenuity in working with candle magick, it can be fun and inexpensive. Candle spells usually involve chanting a poem Or a charm as well as raising energy. Most wiccan students are taught candle magick early in
their training in order to give them confidence when they continue to the more difficult aspects of magickal operations.

Steps To Use:

1.Choose an Appropriate Color: THe color of the candle you use is your First Concern. You must relate the color with the goal you have in mind. 

Colors:

Red: Energy, Strength, Will Power, conquer, Health, Strength, Vigor, also protects against psychic attack.

Green: Abundance, Good fortunes, Generosity, SUccess, Renewal, Marriage, Balance, communication with nature spirits, Money Feritilty, Finance, Healing, Luck.

Yellow: Intellect, Imagination, Mind Power, Creativity, Confidence, Gentle Persuasion,  Attraction, Charm, Confidence, Concentration, Inspiration, Mental
Clarity, Knowledge, Commerce, Medicine, Counseling, Healing, Protection

Gold: Fortune, Intuition, Understanding, Divination, Fast Luck, Financial Gain, Money, Knowledge, Healing, Happiness,

*Gold, or light clear yellow, is associated with male deity powers*

Pink: Associated with the purest form of True Love, Friendship, Affection, Romance, Spiritual Awakening and Healing, Banishing Hatred, Honor, Morality

Orange: Prosperity, Creativity, Enthusiasm, Success, Stamina, and Energy, Mental Agility, Sudden Changes, Adaptability, Attraction, Encouragement, Stimulation, Dissuades laziness, Helps one to gain control, Changes Luck.

*A very powerful color, be prepared to face major changes if you use it*

White: Purity, Sincerity, Truth, Spirituality, Greater attainments in life, Wholeness, Higher Power, Contacting Spirit Helpers, Balancing Auras, Confusing Enemies, Helping Pregnancy or Birth, Raising Vibrations, Destroying destructive
energy.

*Whenever in doubt about a candle color, white is a sage choice. It is a highly balanced spiritual hue*

Blue (light):Truth, Inspiration, Wisdom, Protection, Good Health, Patience, Tranquility, Understanding, Happiness, Inner Peace, Fidelity, Harmony, Getting in Contact with Higher Self

Blue (Royal): Happiness, Loyalty, Group Success, Occult Power, Expansion

Blue (Dark): Changeability, Depression, Impulsiveness

Purple: Success, Idealism, Higher Psychic Ability, Wisdom, Spiritual Protection and Healing, Honor, Spirit Contact, Breaking Bad Luck of Hexes, Driving Evil
Away, Divination, Greater Magickal Knowledge, Ambition, Business Progress, Power, Tension, Success In Court Cases, Business Success, Influencing People who Hold Power over You.

Violet: Healing, Peace, Spirituality

Indigo: Meditation, Neutralizing another's Magick, Balancing Karma, Stop Gossip, Lies or Competition.

Magenta: Making things happen fast, Quick Change, Spiritual, exorcism.

Silver(Light Grey): Victory, Stability, Meditation, developing Psychic Ability, Removal of Negative Power, Repelling Destruction, Cancellation, Neutrality, Stalemate.

*Silver is Primarily associated with Female Deities*

Black: Goes two ways (White) Absorbs and removes anything; Reversing, Uncrossing, Binding Negative Forces, Protection, Releasing, Breaking Blockages, Unsticks stagnant Situations. (Dark) Confusion, Discord, Evil, Loss, Create Confusion and Discord among Enemies.

*Black is one of the most powerful colors, be careful (or prepared) when using it*

Brown: Attract Money and Success, Influence Earth elementals, Concentration, Balance, ESP, Intuition, Study, Communicate with Nature, Hesitation, Neutrality,
Uncertainty.

Greenish-Yellow: Anger, Cowardice, Discord, Jealousy, Sickness

2.Cleanse the Candle: Now that you have found the appropriate color for what you need your next task is to remove the energies put into the candle during the
manufacturing process (unless you made the candle yourself with a particular goal in mind) First you soak a tissue or cotton swab with rubbing alcohol and, holding the candle in your hand, cleanse it surface  moving from bottom to top.
This motion expels energy from the candle. If the candle you are using is encased in glass you would cleanse the glass and the clean the exposed wax.

3.Consecrate the Candle: Next dedicate your candle to your purpose. This may be done by three methods any or all of which may be used.

Carve symbols into the candle: Take a sharp object (such as your athame (knife) or a toothpick) and carve appropriate symbols into the side of the candle or the top if glass encased. I.E. If you are working for a raise at work a dollar sign may be appropriate, romance a heart, etc. Astrological signs, runes, element signs, and personal signs may also be used. Think intensely of your goal while you carve it. Even better is to repeat a verbal formula, such as an incantation or affirmation.

Oil the Candle: Most Metaphysical stores carry a wide range of oils for sale some  for particular goals or you can gather the oils and mix your own. Dip your fingers into the oil and anoint the candle's entire surface with it. If you want to attract good, oil the candle from top to bottom and if you want to expel something from your life oil the candle from bottom to top. If you can't decide which direction to oil from try working from the center up then the center down. If the candle is glass-encased oil the exposed wax clockwise to draw good or counter-clockwise to expel negativity

Spray, Sprinkle, or Anoint the candle with water: Purchase the water from a metaphysical store (such as prosperity, love, success, or healing water) and pour it into something that you could mist it out of (spray bottle, plant mister) Spray the entire surface of the candle as you repeat your affirmation
or incantation. If you don't have a mister just use your fingers and anoint the candle as you would with an oil.

*A cleansed and consecrated candle should be used for ONE purpose only.*

4.Lighting your Candle: When you light your candle do so consciously. Be aware that fire has an association with the spiritual plane. Concentrate on what the purpose of that candle is as you light it.

5.Length of Time to Burn: You should decide how often and for how long a time you are going to burn your candle. Choose your candle size according to your purpose. If your goal is very important then you may wish to burn your candle
every day for several days, which means you will need to use a very large candle or you could use several smaller candles and burn one each day. Remember though that you would have to cleanse and consecrate each candle before use.
